A musical mixture of funk, fusion, salsa, mambo and rhythm and blues!
Roberto Ocasio’s Latin Jazz Project was born in 1997 out of Roberto’s combined love of jazz and the Latin music of his heritage. The group’s popularity has grown rapidly throughout northeast Ohio and beyond. Wherever the venue, performances draw enthusiastic and diverse audiences of all ages, listeners as well as dancers—from receptions, clubs and private parties to full-scale festivals, concerts and events. This group of highly trained and talented musicians leads audiences through unique and vibrant pieces, turning some numbers into dynamic straight-ahead big-band material which has become the group’s trademark.
Two-time winner of FREE TIMES Magazine’s “Best Jazz Band” Award, the Band has also been recognized for four years as one of the top five best jazz bands in northern Ohio. Roberto Ocasio’s Latin Jazz Project has opened or shared the stage with national artists, Eddie Palmieri, Bobby Sanabria, Boney James, Nestor Torres, Craig Chaquico, Kim Waters, Chieli Minucci, Humberto Ramirez, Joe Sample, David Gonzalez, Gipsy Kings, and Kool & The Gang. The Group’s first CD, “Algo Para Ti” (Something Just for You), is a presentation of eleven songs to send the senses soaring. All of the compositions were written, arranged, and produced by Roberto Ocasio. The group performs regularly for award-winning nationally recognized smooth-jazz station, WNWV 107.3 THE WAVE, and a client list from The Cleveland Orchestra at Severance Hall to Belkin Productions, Clear Channel Entertainment, Fox Television, House of Blues, Playhouse Square…and more!
With the untimely passing of Roberto on January 31, 2004, there have been countless requests to keep Roberto’s music alive and growing. Roberto Ocasio’s Latin Jazz Project is continuing through performances and other opportunities, playing Roberto’s original music and band members’ new compositions. Whether guests would be best entertained by the trio, quartet, quintet, or full “Tropical Jam” Orchestra, first-class performances are always customized to clients’ needs. ROLJP is also available for workshops, seminars and lectures, including demonstrations and the history of Latin music from its African roots to the Caribbean to New York City!
